Breast Health Today

Breast health has emerged as a top public health priority over the past decade and the statistics are staggering. According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide.  Medical Data International reports that a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. It is estimated that more than 1.2 million people throughout the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.  The American Cancer Society (ACS) projects that there will be approximately 211,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the U.S. alone in 2005, and 40,400 women and 400 men will die from the disease this year. According to ACS, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women ages 40 to 55. Based on current trends, approximately one out of every seven women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
